Laser Treatment For Rosacea:

Rosacea (pronounced as roh-zay-sha) is a chronic skin disease that affects the center of our face spreading to various parts of the body like cheeks, nose, chin and forehead. It spreads and worsens overtime when left untreated. The funniest part is that most people are unaware of being affected by this disease.

Even though the complete treating mechanism is still unknown, there is laser treatment available which helps to reduce the redness and flushing on cheeks and nose.

Lasers are trendy and capable of treating the following:

  1. Dilated blood vessels
  2. Persistent redness
  3. Thickening skin on nose and cheeks (also known as rhinophyma)

The pulsed dye laser (PDL) is an old remedial measure to treat flushing and visible blood vessels of rosacea. A tremendous change may be observed in most of the patients after the first treatment. 50% of redness can be reduced within two laser treatments. Flushing, itching, dry skin, burning, swelling, and sensitivity of patients are reduced to a greater extent and this significantly improved their quality of life.

Treatments Required:

2-4 treatments are required for the patient to respond well to the disease. An interval of one month is given for each procedure of the treatment. The procedure may take about 15-20 minutes and you can resume your daily activities immediately.

Characteristics:

The patient may feel the pulse of laser light like a pinch similar to a snapping rubber band. Before the emission of light, the laser device preps the skin with a blast of chilled air in order to reduce the discomfort.

Precautions:

Patients must not perform the laser treatment on tanned skin. Also, before and after the procedure sunlight should be minimized. However, there are no changes in activities or medications that need to be stopped, before or after treatment.

Side Effects:

Temporary bruising is experienced by the patient that lasts for a week. A mere amount of bruising can be traced even though Bruise-free treatments are available. However, researchers have concluded that bruising leads to a consistent decrease in redness.
